Passengers in driver's seat as rail programme revealed

LABOUR has revealed details of its plan to return Britain's railways to public ownership and end years of failure under the Tories.

A state-owned company, Great British Railways, will take over running South Western Railway in May, the first firm to transfer.

All passenger services operated under contracts with the Department for Transport will make the switch over the next three years, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said.
