DANNY HOUGHTON has won back the Hull captaincy but all he really wants before retiring is to see his beloved club thrive again.
The hooker was skipper of his hometown club from 2018 to 2021. But Brett Hodgson made England scrum-half Luke Gale captain in 2022 and last year Tony Smith handed the responsibility to Carlos Tuimavave.
But Smith has now reinstalled Houghton, who helped Hull to Challenge Cup wins in 2016 and 2017, for the new campaign starting next month.
It is also likely to be the ex-Man of Steel's final campaign.
Houghton, 35, would love to sign off as a Super League champion with Hull having not lifted a championship since 1983.
