PEOPLE going abroad at Christmas are being warned over a rise in mosquito-borne infections.

The UK Health Security Agency said imported malaria in Britain is at its highest level since 2001 and up 26% in the last year, with 2,106 cases.

There were also six malaria-related deaths in 2023. The first half of 2024 had a record increase in dengue fever, and eight Zika cases.
