THE crocodile that killed a 12-year-old girl while she was swimming with her family has been shot dead by rangers.Wildlife experts had been trying to trap or cull the 14ft male since it attacked the girl last week.The rangers shot the saltwater croc with the permission of the traditional landowners of Palumpa in the Australian Outback.The girl's death was the first fatal crocodile attack in the Northern Territory since 2018, when a woman was killed while gathering mussels in a river.Police said analysis had confirmed it was the croc that killed the girl in Mango Creek. Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said: "The events of last week have had a huge impact on the family and local police are continuing to provide support to everyone impacted." Hunting crocs was outlawed in 1971 and numbers have risen from 3,000 to 100,000.
