Cameron & Co must be taken to task, say doctors. Tories have questions to answer over austerity.

DOCTORS want David Cameron, George Osborne and Jeremy Hunt taken to task over how austerity left the NHS struggling to cope with the pandemic.

The Tory trio will face questions about the impact of swingeing cuts to public services when they are hauled before the public inquiry into the Covid crisis this week.

Unions have also warned that the architects of austerity have "serious questions to answer".

Mr Cameron, who was Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, will be grilled today, before his former Chancellor Mr Osborne appears tomorrow.

Former Health Secretary Mr Hunt, who is now at the heart of Rishi Sunak's Government as Chancellor, will be quizzed on Wednesday by Baroness Heather Hallett's inquiry.

The British Medical Association said the health service was operating without enough staff or beds as the virus surged across the country.
