A YOUNG girl who was in so much pain due to sickle cell disease that she could not play sport or go on holiday can now enjoy both thanks to a pioneering procedure.

Neriya-May Hall's life has been transformed by the use of ultrasound in blood transfusions, along with tests that predict how often she needs them. It means her family can plan trips away.

The 13-year-old, a keen footballer, has fresh blood every five weeks to stop a sickle cell crisis painful episodes caused by blocked blood vessels. And she can now play sport without fearing another attack.
