AN ex-soldier accused of fleeing jail by strapping himself under a lorry told police he "wasn't sitting in the front", a court heard.
Daniel Khalife, 23, is said to have broken out of Wandsworth prison in South London, where he was on remand accused of spying for Iran.
He was arrested four days after a major manhunt was launched.
A jury saw CCTV footage of Khalife in the jail's kitchen area at 7.18am on September 6 last year.
Eight minutes later, a Bidford Food lorry leaves with, it is claimed, Khalife underneath it in a bedsheet sling hooked to the chassis.
