SUSPENDED Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been charged with assault following a street clash.Cheshire Police confirmed he has been summonsed to appear in court following the incident last month.Mr Amesbury, 55, who represents Runcorn and Helsby, is accused of assaulting a 45-year-old man in Frodsham at 3am on October 26.CCTV recordings seem to show the backbencher throwing a punch at the man. He then appeared to hit him several times while on the ground, while seemingly telling him: "You won't ever threaten me again." The MP said he voluntarily contacted Cheshire Police after the incident.He was suspended by the Labour Party when the footage came to light the following day.Rosemary Ainslie, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "Following a review of the evidence provided by Cheshire Police, we have authorised a SUSPENDED Mike Amesbury charge of common assault against Mike Amesbury MP, 55." In May, MPs voted in favour of a process enabling colleagues arrested on suspicion of violent offences to be banned from Parliament. A House of Commons spokesman said the Speaker has appointed a risk assessment panel.
