DARWIN NUNEZ and Diogo Jota won the plaudits for their goals at Bournemouth on Sunday but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reserved most praise for a more unsung hero.

Alexis Mac Allister has struggled to impress in a holding midfield role since moving to Anfield but Kop boss Klopp hailed his display against the Cherries as "absolutely exceptional".

"He's a super important player for us," Klopp said.

"I'm so happy for us, obviously, but for him as well." It sounded like a rebuke to those who have criticised.

On the south coast Mac Allister made nine tackles, the most by any Liverpool player in a single match for eight years, and recovered possession on 15 occasions - a team-high figure this season.
