Pay nurses above rate of inflation

A MAJORITY of voters want better pay for nurses with 63% calling for a big uplift after years of Tory squeezes, a poll reveals.

Just over half of Tory voters back a boost, rising to 71% among Liberal Democrats and 78% Labour supporters, the YouGov survey for the Royal College of Nursing found.

Researchers also said 72% thought there were too few nurses to provide safe care. There are around 34,000 unfilled NHS nursing posts in England.
