UK Sport expects minimum of 50 Team GB podium places in Paris showpiece

TEAM GB have been set a minimum medal target of 50 for the Paris Olympics.

And UK Sport, which has invested £315million over a three-year cycle, said it expects the British team to finish in the table's top five for a fifth consecutive Games.

A total of 327 British athletes will compete in the French capital, with more women named in the team for a second straight Olympics.

And a cohort featuring 41 reigning world champions could potentially end up winning 70 medals, with UK Sport believing there is a good chance of the team eclipsing the record of 67 set at Rio 2016.
