POLICE are looking into claims that a Tory MP misused campaign funds to pay "bad people".
Mark Menzies is said to have called a former campaign manager at 3:15am claiming he was locked in a flat and needed &pound;5,000 as a matter of "life and death".
The sum, which rose to &pound;6,500, was reportedly paid by his office manager from her personal account and then reimbursed from party funds.
Last night Lancashire Police said: "We have received a letter detailing concerns around this matter and we are reviewing the information in more detail." Labour Party chairwoman Anneliese Dodds had asked the force to investigate the December incident.
Katie Fieldhouse, the party Katie Field worker Mr Menzies called, said last night the Conservatives had received legal advice that allegations against him amounted to fraud but officials&nbsp;decided not to inform the police because it was donors' money.
She told the Times the party's chief of staff had consulted solicitors after she made a complaint. Ms Fieldhouse, Menzies &amp; dhouse 78, said: "He told me 'the solicitor said it is fraud but you are not duty-bound to report it because it's not Conservative Party money"."

She urged Mr Menzies to stand down, adding: "If he falls on his sword... go away and start afresh. That's what I would like to happen."&nbsp;
She said she had raised her concerns with the Chief Whip Simon Hart in January but became frustrated with the response. She said: "I put my faith completely in the party... nothing happened. I heard nothing. I am appalled."
The party suspended Mr Menzies, MP for Fylde, Lancashire, only after the allegations became public this week.
Mr Menzies disputes the allegations and claims to have fully complied with all the rules for declarations.
