ISRAEL was under pressure last night after Ireland, Spain and Norway said they will recognise Palestine as a state.
The announcement of formal recognition from May 28 came as the International Criminal Court debated war crimes arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defence minister Yoav Gallant, along with three leaders of Hamas.
Recognition by the three countries would bring the number of UN members accepting Palestine to 143. The UK is not among them.
Ireland's premier, Taoiseach Simon Harris, said: "This is a historic and important day for Ireland and for Palestine."

Israel recalled its ambassadors from all three countries and said: "This act jeopardises any hope of Hamas releasing any of the 128 women, children and men kidnapped."
So far more than 35,000 Palestinians have died in the war sparked when Hamas's October 7 massacre killed 1,200 Israelis.
