Travellers in Gloucester, near the River Severn, hitched a ride on top of a Land Rover Discovery as they tried to dodge the floodwater. Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire was all but "cut off" by floodwater after a barrage of rain.
Nottinghamshire County Council said a major incident was declared "due to rising levels along the river Trent".
