Fergie recovering after breast cancer op

AS she returned home to recuperate from surgery, Sarah Ferguson thanked the medical staff who had helped her, especially those who spotted signs of breast cancer during a life-saving routine mammogram.

The 63-year-old Duchess of York said her case highlighted the importance of screening as she had shown no cancer symptoms.

Her spokesman said: "Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram.

"She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully.

The operation was carried out at the King Edward VII hospital in London. The statement said: "The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is recuperating with her family.
