County councillor Guy RennerThompson said: "It serves quite a few houses and farms, and we'd like to get it back open as soon as possible."I thought the box had been closed because the road had been closed."I know the locals will be annoyed because about a year ago, the post box got stolen. It's a very well-used box, although it's in the middle of nowhere." The box in Adderstone, a village in north Northumberland, has been out of service since July. Duncan Hutt, from Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said snails and slugs have a very varied diet.He added: "Snails eat paper because most contain cellulose from the wood pulp which they can digest and use for energy. They also get calcium from paper and that's what they need to build their shells."There's also an awful lot of snails and slugs around this year, following a mild winter and wet spring."That's good for hedgehogs, frogs and song thrushes, which eat them - but not such good news for people in Adderstone who want to post a letter." A Royal Mail spokesman said they hoped it would reopen this week.
