Arrested Parliamentary aide insists he's innocent

A PARLIAMENTARY researcher arrested on suspicion of spying for China yesterday claimed he is innocent, saying it "would be against everything I stand for".

The 28-year-old was described as a "very serious operator" who cultivated contacts in Westminster and tried to date a political journalist.

The Prime Minister's spokesman urged any parliamentarians who fear they were targeted to contact police.

The staffer has not been seen in Westminster since his arrest in March. He was previously a researcher for the China Research Group in 2021, it was reported.

The suspect, who the Mirror is not naming, is believed to be a GP's son who went to a private school and tried to set up a date with a parliamentary press reporter on a dating app.
