BRITAIN is turning into a nanny state - as a poll reveals more grandparents are stepping up to take on the duties of hard-working parents.
Four in ten have pledged to take a more active role in their grandchildren's lives, helping with tasks like babysitting, school runs, bathtimes, and cooking.
Half say there is more pressure on&nbsp;parents now than when they were young, a study of 2,000 retirees found.
Four in ten have vowed to help because they cannot stand seeing their relatives struggle with the pressures of work, finances, and family life. They are helping with the school run an average five times a month and hosting grandkids on sleepovers at least three times.
Grannies and grandads are also&nbsp;taking on tasks like cooking evening meals for the family, doing the laundry and even walking the dog.
A quarter move to live nearer their family, a poll for retirement developer McCarthy Stone found.
Managing director Fiona Carleton said: "With parents facing increasing financial pressures they are leaning on grandparents more than ever."
