OBESITY rates have doubled since 1990, with 17 million Britons now falling into this category.

A report in The Lancet also shows the number of obese people globally surpassed one billion in 2022.

The UK's female obesity rate rose from 13.8% in 1990 to 28.3% in 2022.

For men it rose from 10.7% to 26.9%.

Among children and adolescents the rate jumped from 4.7% to 10.1% for girls and 4.3% to 12.4% for boys.
