THE spectre of Tory misery was finally exorcised yesterday as Keir Starmer ushered in a new era of hope with a vow to repair the damage caused to Britain.
And after his historic 176-majority election win the new PM pledged to govern for all after 14 years of opportunism and greed that benefitted a handful of self-serving MPs and their rich cronies.
Standing on the steps of Downing Street, Mr Starmer said the work to build a brighter future begins immediately, which includes rescuing the NHS and slashing soaring energy bills.
He added: "Brick by brick, we will rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity." Mr Starmer said the British people had voted "decisively for change".
He added: "Changing a country is not like flicking a switch and the world is now a more volatile place.
"This will take a while. But have no doubt the work of change begins, now. Have no doubt we will rebuild Britain, with wealth created in every community. Our NHS back on its feet facing the future. Secure borders, safer streets, everyone treated with dignity and respect at work. The opportunity of clean British power, cutting your energy bills for good."
Mr Starmer also took a pop at the Tory record in office, after Rishi Sunak's party crashed to a humiliating election defeat with just 121 seats.
