William's first visit was to The Foyer, a project in Belfast aimed at helping to prevent homelessness for young care leavers, run by the Simon Community.Lord Lieutenant Dame Fionnuala Jay-O'Boyle, SDLP leader Claire Hanna, Simon Community boss Jim Dennison and Neil McKittrick, the Northern Ireland lead for William's Homewards initiative, were there to welcome him.Research indicates that one third of people with care experience in the UK become homeless within the first two years of leaving the system, while 25% of all people who have been homeless have also been in care at some point.During his visit to The Foyer, William spoke to young people about their experiences and the support they have received. He met leading practitioners in the sector to discuss some of the work being delivered.William also visited Ulster University's Belfast City Campus Centre, where he heard about its work to solidify Northern Ireland as a global leader of creative excellence and innovation.Keen to ensure nobody missed out on the visit, he even recorded a video message for one student who could not make it.
