Regional Screen Scotland, the owner, operator and manager of the Screen Machine service needs &pound;1.4million to keep it going.
It has leased a new mobile cinema, Cin mobile.
After going around the&nbsp;world the equivalent of 10 times, the old machine, which was breaking down more regularly, screened its last film in March.
Screen Machine has been touring to 40 plus locations around the Highlands and Islands for the past 17 years.
It sits too low though to get off the slipway at several islands including Eigg,&nbsp;Jura, Gigha, Raasay, Cumbrae and two Orkney isles. So they must wait for a permanent replacement.
The service said: "A new Screen Machine will cost &pound;1.4million and need one year to 18 months to build.
"We need the Scottish government to provide 50 per cent of the cost to pay a deposit. We'll embark on a fundraising effort to bring in the balance."
