A SURGE in online scams has seen more than 16,000 Scots targeted in a year - but only 2000 cases were solved.
New figures show internet fraud cases doubled to nearly 50 a day in the last five years, but police are struggling to keep up with overseas scammers.
Scottish Police Authority papers revealed relentless online fraudsters and dwindling resources have resulted in the highest ever levels of the crime the country has seen.
