Temperatures were even more abnormal around the world, with North America, South America, Europe and Africa all experiencing their warmest Septembers on record. And, for the sixth straight month, global oceans ranked as the hottest on record.
World Meteorological Organisation secretary-general Prof Petteri Taalas said: "Temperature.
