ACCIES old boy Callum Smith gave Airdrie a precious lead with the only goal of a tense play-off final first leg.
Smith's 13th goal of the season gives the Diamonds the edge ahead of Saturday's return in Hamilton.
The away side kept Airdrie's freescoring attack quiet for much of the night but missed good chances of their own before Smith struck early in the second half.
Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe said: "Smithy took his goal really well but we were a bit wasteful from middle to front. I can't be too angry or frustrated though.
"We're halfway there. It means nothing yet but we've given ourselves a good chance."
