A BRIEF CALM.. & NOW THE STORM

ISRAEL and Hezbollah resumed fighting yesterday after a brief calm brought on by the most violent escalation between the two since war in Gaza broke out.

It came as Iran renewed its threat against Israel for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month, with an outburst from its new foreign minister.

Israel launched strikes across southern Lebanon yesterday, including hitting a car in an attack believed to be targeting a militant fighter.

Hezbollah struck back, firing at communities in northern Israel. Sirens blared out warnings of incoming Hezbollah rockets across Israel’s Western Galilee region.

The hostilities followed a short-lived lull after Israel’s biggest air mission against Hezbollah since the 2006 war.
