BOB MacINTYRE reckons scenes of supermarket carnage helped ease some of his Renaissance agony and set up his Open bid. 

The Oban ace heads into Hoylake still feeling sore about his dramatic last-gasp loss to Rory McIlroy at the Genesis Scottish Open.

MacIntyre confessed that he barely slept on Sunday night as the images and memories of the brutal setback raced through his mind.

Although he says the week was a fairytale, it didn’t get the story-booking ending. The Scot was destined for heroic home glory until McIlroy’s magical two birdies gave him the Rolex Series success and the £1.2million winner’s cheque.
