AN abusive husband who cut his wife's throat after she left him was jailed for life for the savage murder of the mother of three.
A judge ordered that John Lizanec should serve at least 24 years in prison and told him: "The evidence showed you to be an abusive bully and like all bullies, you are a coward. It is perfectly possible you will never be&nbsp;released." He also said the killer's attempts to suggest that his wife Michelle took her own life were "preposterous".
Last night, the Lizanec family spoke of their "relief" at yesterday's verdict and their hope for closure.
Speaking outside the High Court in Edinburgh, the killer's daughter Ebony said: "I'm glad we finally got justice.
Lizanec attacked Michelle, 44, with a knife on February 13, 2021, after the "elated"&nbsp;woman broke free from his twisted controlling and derogatory behaviour.
He slit her throat before jamming her into an airing cupboard at home and fleeing to his mother's house in Dundee where he sparked a siege after arming himself with another knife.
The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all five of the charges Lizanec faced including abusive behaviour and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
