CARLOS ALCARAZ flew home to Murcia last night for a short holiday and to be “a normal guy” again.

But the tennis world is still reverberating with the young Spaniard’s super-human achievement of beating Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon to herald a new age in the sport.

BBC viewing figures for the men’s final peaked at 11.3m – the highest since Andy Murray’s 2016 triumph – to show the 20-year-old’s appeal.

Wearing a dinner suit and black tie, Alcaraz enchanted the audience at Sunday night’s Champions’ Dinner in the same way he’d earlier captured the Centre Court crowd.

Already a Major champion from last year’s US Open, being a Wimbledon champion takes his fame to a new level.
