JAMES Cosmo has revealed he thought a friend was winding him up when Mel Gibson called to offer him a part in Braveheart.
The actor, best known for roles in Game of Thrones and Jack Ryan, was about to settle down with a curry and a video when the phone rang.
James assumed it was his pal and didn't believe it when his wife said Gibson was on the line.
The 75-year-old told the Anything Goes podcast: "My son had just been born. I'd met Mel Gibson about four or five months before.
"It was 10.40pm, Saturday night. The curry had come at 10.30pm, I was starving and we were just about to watch this film.
"So, the phone rings, I said to Annie, 'That'll be Dominic.&nbsp;Just say I'll see him tomorrow at lunchtime. I just want to have my curry. She lifts the phone and says, 'Hello'. She said, 'It's Mel Gibson'.
"I said, 'For f*** sake, that's Dominic'. I lifted the phone and this voice said, 'Hey Jimmy, it's Mel', I said, 'Oh aye, who is it?' He said, 'I've been watching your showreel, the character of Campbell, the father, I'd love you to play. I said, 'Yeah, I'd love to.
"I put down the phone, I looked at the clock - 10.40pm - and I thought, 'Boy, this changes everything."
