Analysis by Friends of the Earth Scotland and Platform shows Scotland's biggest investor in oil and gas is Strathclyde Pension Fund- administered by Glasgow City Council. It&nbsp;funnelled &pound;618million into fossil fuel firms last year despite a vote by Glasgow councillors to divest from the industry in April 2021.
The Lothian Pension Fund, administered by Edinburgh City Council, has at least &pound;350million invested in the oil industry.
However, its councillors also voted in favour of divestment last November.
Friends of the Earth Scotland's Sally Clark said: "It's unbelievable that despite clear direction from councillors, the biggest council pension funds in Scotland are still investing this obscene amount of money in fossil fuel companies." It comes after PM Rishi Sunak green-lit more than 100 new North Sea licences.
Strathclyde Pension Fund said it had reduced its exposure to oil and gas by more than 50 per cent and its energy investments see renewables prioritised.
Lothian Pension Fund said it was committed to "investing in a responsible manner... this includes considering climate risk".
