A DRONE drugs, knives and mobile phones worth £75,000 was flown into the grounds of a prison.

The device crashlanded in the prisoners' yard at HMP Edinburgh this year and was recovered by staff.

The incident was revealed by the jail's new governor Fiona Cruickshanks as she spoke about how the growing use of drones to smuggle drugs and weapons into jails had become a "big problem".

Scottish Prison Service (SPS) figures show the number of drones detected has jumped from two in 2019 to nine in the first three months this year.
