When Steve Donaldson, 61, was 18, his dream was to be a cyclist and compete professionally but his dream was short-lived.
When cycling in 1980, he had pains in his chest and was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia - a fast heart rate caused by his lower heart chambers.
He was immediately put on heart medication but it was the beginning of a chain of hospital visits, drugs and technologies to keep his heart in shape.
In 1999, he was fitted with a personal defibrillator but four years later he was told one side of his heart wasn't working.
By 2010, he was in a bad way and was given a heart transplant just in time.
After two years of rehab, he was back in the saddle.
Since then, he has raced in nine cycling events and is currently European Road Race Champion in his age category at the European Transplant Games.
On Saturday, he will captain a cycle team from Glasgow to The Kelpies as part of the Race for Recipients, an event that raises awareness for Organ and Tissue Donation Week.
