Dad Paul choked to death on his false teeth in hospital

A GRIEVING widow is begging for justice after her husband choked to death in hospital on his dentures.

Paul Stewart, 44, was admitted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley complaining of stomach and chest pains after having a seizure at home.

But days later he was dead after swallowing his false teeth during another seizure.

His heartbroken wife, Wendy, 50, told yesterday how she and his children were traumatised by hearing Paul gasping for breath over the phone as he fought for life.

In tears Wendy said: "How can I ever erase the sound of Paul choking from my head?"

The family claim he should not have been allowed to have his dentures in while he was in a room on his own with a history of having had a seizure.

And they insist staff should have removed them when he began to have another convulsion.

Wendy, from Erskine, Renfrewshire, said: "Not once have the hospital ever said sorry to me for his death."

She wants NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to apologise and change protocols to ensure "this can never happen to another patient".

Wendy took a legal action against the hospital after Paul's death in 2016, but when her lawyer moved practice and withdrew from the case, she continued with the action herself even though she was suffering from memory issues as a result of a bleed on the brain.

The case was dismissed before it got to the hearing stage with the judge ruling there was no case to answer.
