FORMER chancellor Alistair Darling was remembered as "a man of great integrity" at a memorial service attended by the big beasts of Labour politics.
Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, along with author JK Rowling, were among the mourners at St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, in Edinburgh.
Lord Darling, who died last month, aged 70, after receiving treatment for cancer, was chancellor during the 2008 financial crash.
Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves referred to that time in her powerful eulogy to "a wise mentor". She said: "It was in that situation that the values that defined Alistair as a man and as a leader came to the fore.
"[He was] a model of calm, with careful deliberation and strong instincts when all around him was so uncertain." He served as a Labour MP between 1987 and 2015.
Lord Darling was married to Maggie and they had two children, Calum and Anna.
Paying tribute, Anna said: "My dad had many important jobs. But the two he took most seriously were being husband to our mum and being our dad. We will love and miss him forever."
