Port authorities yesterday announced plans to try to avoid a repeat of last weekend's chaos.
Dover declared a critical incident last Friday when long queues of traffic trying to board ferries built up.
Port bosses admitted it was a "horrible situation" for many, with the elderly and schoolchildren stuck on coaches for hours.
Ferry operators DFDS, Irish Ferries and P&amp;O are working with coach companies to spread travel across a three-day period, from today to Saturday.
The port says it is also installing extra temporary border control checks for coach passengers. And French border control&nbsp;authorities will be providing a "full complement" of officials, it said.
The port added: "Coach and car drivers are being advised not to arrive early for sailings, so as to avoid unnecessary bottlenecks in the Dover area.
It comes ahead of what is expected to be a busy weekend on the roads, rail and at airports.
