SIR Alex Ferguson donated more than £150,000 to good causes through his charitable foundation last year.The former St Mirren, Aberdeen, Manchester United and Scotland manager set up the Elizabeth Hardie Ferguson Charitable Trust Fund more than 20 years ago in memory of his mum.The 82-year-old is a trustee of the fund which makes one-off grants to good causes in the UK. Accounts show he made donations totalling £154,415 in 2023.The bulk was given to Glasgow Caledonian University where Fergie is an honorary graduate and has a library in his name.It will be used to "support students through scholarships, employability access to life-changing opportunities and to boost in the wake of the pandemic".Donations were also made to a school and a charity supporting people with muscular dystrophy.The trust raised a total of £725,000 last year through its fundraising activities which included golf days and gala dinners attended by Ferguson and friends from football.In 2019, the charity donated £405,000 to the NHS as a thank you for saving his life in 2018 following a brain haemorrhage.The accounts state: "The trustees intend to continue providing grants in a similar way to the recent past."
