Granny Lorraine: Social media is toxic to our kids

LORRAINE Kelly wants social media giants to clean up their act in the wake of TV hit Adolescence, saying: “We need to hold them to account.”

The ITV star added that becoming a grandmother for the first time has "focused her mind" about the online dangers facing children these days.

It comes as the Netflix show - which stars Stephen Graham and tells the story of a 13-year-old boy (Owen Cooper) accused of murdering a girl from his class - sparked a conversation about toxic material online.

Issuing a rallying call, Lorraine said: "People are making these decisions. So let's find out who made the decision.

"Who allows this awful, awful, toxic, life-threatening stuff online? And what are they going to do about it? They have to do something about it."
