A TORY minister has been slammed as "out of touch" after he said over-50s should deliver takeaways if they are struggling for cash.

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said hard-up older people should consider jobs they "might not have otherwise thought of".

The 61-year-old was speaking at a visit to the London headquarters of food delivery firm Deliveroo, which has recorded a 62 per cent increase in riders aged over 50 since 2021.

The Tory minister had been asked if the over-50s should apply for jobs traditionally seen as being for younger people in an interview with the Times.

He said: "There are loads of great opportunities out there for people and it's of course good for people to consider options they might not have otherwise thought of."
