The National Referral Mechanism (NRM) is the UK-wide framework for identifying potential victims of "modern slavery" and "ensuring they receive the appropriate support".
Police Scotland's latest performance report states: "NRM reporting is at its highest level since recording began."
The issue was highlighted last year when a Police Scotland probe caught a gang of four running a sex racket that resulted in them being jailed for a total of 31 years.
They trafficked vulnerable women from China and Thailand into Scotland for prostitution, took their passports and forced them to work in brothels across Glasgow.
Detective Superintendent Donna Duffy, in charge of Glasgow's Human Trafficking Unit, said: "They see it as a business."
