GREGG Wallace may have said sorry for calling his accusers "middle-class women of a certain age" but for many it left a really bitter taste.

And as the BBC ignored calls to shelve MasterChef: The Professionals and showed the semi-finals as scheduled last night, broadcaster Kirstie Allsopp hit out.

Kirstie, 53, who says Wallace made a lewd comment to her about his sex life, told Times Radio: "Gregg has seen the reaction to his post and is backtracking from it."

The MasterChef presenter, under investigation over historical claims of inappropriate behaviour, faced a backlash after his video on Sunday appeared to belittle and insult what he called "a handful of" accusers.

Downing Street branded his remarks "inappropriate and misogynistic".
