SCOTLAND call-up Stuart McInally promised to 'do it for Dave' as he set his sights on reaching his half century of caps next Sunday.

The veteran hooker - who answered a World Cup SOS call from boss Gregor Townsend on Wednesday after Dave Cherry suffered a concussion falling on a stair in the team hotel - will hang up his boots at the end of the tournament.

With the 33-year-old planning to begin the process of qualifying as a commercial airline pilot in January, he's staying grounded for the foreseeable as he looks to help Scotland exorcise the demons of their 2019 flop.

McInally said: "I saw Dave on Thursday and he seems okay which is the important thing.
