Fighter pilot Jake relives the nerve-wracking moment he confronted two Russian jets

THE stakes could hardly be higher for fighter pilot Jake Desmond. Confronted by two missile-laden Russian jets, the RAF man faces a life or death conundrum.

He said: "If I make an error the result could be pretty catastrophic.

"If I get caught up in the moment and accidentally collide with one of these aircraft it could lead to an escalation into World War III."

Desmond is one of the RAF Lossiemouth pilots who recently returned from a mission to police Nato airspace based in Estonia.

Their work features in new Channel 4 series Top Guns: Inside The RAF which airs today.

Ever since Russian leader Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the RAF has stepped up its preparation in case the war escalates. Pilots and crew from Lossiemouth were deployed to Estonia on a mission to help patrol Nato airspace.
