THE accent is more home counties than Hebrides but Sholto Carnegie has carried a little bit of Islay with him every step of his journey to Olympic gold.

The 29-year-old was overtaken by emotion as he helped GB rowers to the top of the podium in the eights on Saturday morning four years after being pipped at the line to a bronze medal.

In Scottish terms, his success has been one of the highlights of the Games.

Immediately after climbing off the podium at Vaires-surMarne, Carnegie revealed some classic Scottish music including the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond had got him in the groove for his greatest moment on the water.
