Mental health issues costing us £8bn a year

POOR mental health cost the Scottish economy £8.8billion in 2019, says a damning report. 

But most of the costs were not incurred by the healthcare sector – 72 per cent was accounted for by the lost productivity of people living with mental health conditions and costs incurred by unpaid informal carers.

The Auditor General and Accounts Commission report said the figure was “likely to be a significant underestimate”.
