Ochil and South Perthshire MP John Nicolson shared the image of the man on Twitter on Tuesday.
He then claimed to have discovered the man's identity, tagging him and his employer.
This prompted a Twitter backlash for the man and the business, but it turned out that the individual no longer works for the company.
Nicolson deleted the tweet referencing the employer, which the Daily Record has decided not to name, saying: "The company says he hasn't worked for them for years so I deleted the tweet referencing the company as that didn't seem fair to them."
The firm's CEO said: "I am not condoning what the guy has done and if it is an employee of ours, I'd not be happy at all.
"But I don't believe the evidence shown online is anything more than speculation." The man accused of urinating in the street has denied it is him in the photo. Police were contacted for comment.
