Visit to autism-friendly spot in Canada inspires Scots girl to campaign for change at home

A SCOTS teenager is trying to change the country’s approach to autism after being inspired by a town in Canada.

Nuala MacDonald, 17, is asking for simple changes to make life better for autistic children and adults after visiting Channel-Port aux Basques, which is an autismfriendly town in Newfoundland.

She is starring in a BBC show which follows her on her mission to bring change to the towns and villages near her home in the Highlands.

She is inspired by the pioneering work of Joan Chaisson - a retired special education teacher and co-founder ofthe su pport group Autism Involves Me in Canada.

Nuala said after her visit to the country: "They did really simple things in the village.
