No jail for sex assault union boss who wore dress and knickers

A TRADE union boss who was convicted of a series of sexual assaults on a woman has dodged a jail sentence.

Unison regional organiser Gerry Crawley turned up at his victim's home wearing a dress and knickers then performed a sex act in front of her.

He squeezed the same woman's bottom as they chatted with football fans in a bar before a Scottish Cup final.

Married Crawley, 60, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the woman on various occasions between January 2016 and July 2018.

Sheriff Thomas Millar also convicted him of performing a sex act in front of the woman at her home in 2018.

After studying background reports, the sheriff yetserday put him under social work supervision for 12 months.

He will be on the sex offenders register for the same period.

Former Labour councillor Crawley, of East Kilbride, had denied both charges.

The woman, now 37, told the trial Crawley visited at home when she was alone.
