Intruder Stephen Nimmo was jailed for 45 months for what his own lawyer called a "despicable crime.
Father Raymond Breslin was left shaken by the ordeal at St Margaret's Church in Airdrie, the town's sheriff court heard.
Fr Breslin, who is vicar&nbsp;general for Motherwell Diocese, was alone in the house beside the church when Nimmo, 32, turned up.
Lauren Cole, prosecuting, said: "He was afraid to open the door and contacted the police. Nimmo then kicked the door two or three times, forcing it open, and walked into the hallway.
"Fr Breslin immediately went towards his kitchen,&nbsp;closed the door and waited for the police." The thug had made off with &pound;30 to &pound;40 in change.
Nimmo also admitted chasing a man with a knife, threatening police officers, robbing a man of a phone and a games console, shoplifting and threatening supermarket staff - all between October and March.
Sheriff Paul Haran said he was spared a five-year term by pleading guilty.
