BUNGLING Russian commanders have admitted a bomb was accidentally dropped by one of its war planes on a Russian city.
Belgorod, 25 miles east of the Russia-Ukraine border, was hit by a massive explosion late on Thursday, which rocked apartment buildings, destroyed cars and shattered windows.
The blast left a 65ft-wide crater in the middle of a treelined boulevard flanked by apartments and hurled one vehicle onto the roof of a shop.
Two people were injured and a third was taken to hospital, authorities said.
An hour later, the Russian defence ministry admitted a weapon - likely a 1100lb bomb released in error by one of its Su-34 bombers - caused the&nbsp;blast. Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said residents of an apartment block had been temporarily relocated.
In October, a Russian&nbsp;warplane crashed in Yeysk, on the Sea of Azov, killing 15 people.
Observers have noted that as the number of Russian military flights have increased, so have crashes and misfires. In another incident in the Belgorod region, two volunteer soldiers fired at Russian troops, at a firing range killing 11 and wounding 15 before they were&nbsp;shot dead. And undated footage of a Russian T-90 tank taking a direct hit from a Javelin missile while crossing a minefield was also released by Ukrainian forces in Mykolaiv.
